Cyprus International University (CIU)

About the University

Cyprus International University was established in 1997 in response to the growing global demand for higher education, with the goal of becoming a center of excellence in teaching and research.

In 25 years, the number of students has grown from 80 to 22,000, and the number of programs offered has increased from 15 to 196.

Today, Cyprus International University is a leading institution of higher education in Cyprus, recognized for the quality of education provided, its modern infrastructure, and its advanced research facilities.

Over the years, the university has been committed to a variety of global issues such as sustainability, the environment, alternative energy resources, and the protection of cultural heritage. In just four years, the university rose from 375th to 111th place in the UI GreenMetric World Rankings, established the island’s first and largest solar farm, completed plans for the first private biogas plant in Northern Cyprus, and, through the center, the Department of Archaeology, Cultural Heritage, and Conservation has conducted excavations at one of the oldest settlements in the northern part of the island, in the Tatlises region. Plans are set to open the historic site to the public in 2023, where visitors will be able to experience excavation and conservation work firsthand, visit a museum to view items excavated from the site, and participate in educational activities.
